Charity Knitting

Two watch caps knitted in k2p2 rib pattern from an ancient book, Simple Knit and Crochet Patterns Illustrated:  for watching tv while talking on the telephone by Virginia D. McGlynn.  I love this book.  It has several timeless patterns that really are as simple as the author states.  Good for when you want to chat and knit something at the same time.  And each cap in adult size takes only 150 yards of worsted weight yarn-very economical knits.  I sent these and two of the headbands pictured below to The Yarn Garage.  Steven had given me the varigated gray wool in the headbands in exchange for some charity knitted items to help warm the homeless.  I combined it with Cascade 220 wool in black to make a simple, thick, warm headband.

Quotes:

"Private prayer is like straw scattered here and there: If you set it on fire, it makes a lot of little flames. But gather these straws into a bundle and light them, and you get a mighty fire, rising like a column into the sky; public prayer is like that."

St. Jean Marie Baptiste Vianney
Cure d'Ars
on liturgical prayer

I finally understand

"Among those around you, apostolic soul, you are the stone fallen into the lake. With your word and your example, you produce a first circle, and it another, and another, and another, wider each time. Now do you understand the greatness of your mission?" St. Josemarie Escriva: The Way
